Re: [A/S] plumbing and locks - first time airstream owner...
Dave,
Your compartment door key is different from the main door key. And yes the
current list price for a replacement of that main door lockset is $565. It's
because they are virtually handmade since the manufacturer went out of
business some years ago. You can however, buy parts for the lockset. A new
key and tumbler sell for around $45. Most Airstream dealers should have an
illustrated parts breakdown of the lockset.
As for the compartment door keys. Those are 1101X keys, also available
through any Airstream dealer.
The reason you're having problems sizing to your plumbing is the nature of
copper line. When it freezes, it swells before it breaks. So for sure all of
the lines near a break are swollen, and it is likely the rest of the lines
are also. If you want to do the repair only in copper, you will have to go
back to the nearest fitting, sweat out the old stuff and sweat in new line
to the next fitting past the break. A satisfactory temporary fix would be to
double clamp high pressure flex line over a clean cut out at the break site.
Do not use heater hose for this job.
