I have never put water in my water tank and my trailer travels just fine. I 
know, shocking isn't it?

I just never have seen a need for water in the tank because I am always 
hooked up. On travel days I only go about 100 miles so I can be without water 
for two hours. I do carry a gallon of water incase I need it.

I never drive, towing for any length of time at freeway speed, then stop and 
turn the truck off.  For example, if I'm on a freeway and pull into a rest 
stop I leave the engine running. It's very bad to shut the truck off when 
it's real hot. 

On the rare occasions when I need to fuel up with the trailer in tow, I'll 
pull into a gas station on the side... walk the dogs, find something else to 
do like make a sandwich then when the truck has had a chance to relax a bit 
while idling I'll go to the pump and turn him off. It's a law most places 
that you have to stop the engine.

When I get to campgrounds I let him idle while I got in to register. It 
usually takes long enough to cool him down. The last thing I want to do is 
let him idle at my campsite.... ever.
