I have been traveling by myself for 20 years and have not had any bad 
experiences yet - but I am careful of where I park and what I do.  I try to 
pick a campsite near others, before dark.  I like parks that have some 
security, such as KOAs . On a recent trip I stayed at Texas State parks where 
the gates are shut at a certain time and you have a combination to get in 
which is changed each week. This made me feel more secure.  I would not stop 
for the night in a truck stop if I were alone, but might stay in a Wal Mart 
parking lot near other RVers. Being aware of your surroundings is important 
and don't advertise that you are alone.  Having a big dog is a plus!
