 I have a small collection (4) of late 70s Lincoln/Mercury vehicles.  I have
not used any of them to tow my airstream (66 Ambassador 28).  My 77 Lincoln
Towncar has a 460 engine and is supposedly the largest car ever built (it is
half a foot longer than a Ford Excurrsion). Its owners manual states that
its towing capacity with a weight hitch is 6000 pounds. My 28 foot will fit
under that (but not by much), but I'd be surprised if your 31 will.  The
towing capacity on my 76 Mercury Montego and 78 Cougar with 351 engines is
listed as 5000 lbs.  What I'm trying to say is that I would be surprised if
you can find a car capable of towing your airstream. What specific
models/makes does your manual show towing trailers?
