[A/S] Solid vs Stranded wiring

Hi All,

When I got my A/S I was very surprised to see ordinary
12/2 Romex solid copper wiring. Coming from the boating
world, one would expect to see silver tinned stranded copper.
Solid wire doesn't hold up well under the stress of travel. 

My question is: did older A/S have stranded or has it always
been solid?

PS - the silver tinning, although more expensive, keeps the
       wire from corroding.
