RE: [A/S] New poll for AirstreamList
Tom - The folks at Camper Clinic II at Buda told me that Cliff lost his
affiliation with Airstream due to reports of poor repair & maintenance
work. True? Who knows. Obviously Camper Clinic stood to benefit, so I
don't really know what the real poop is here. Camper Clinic told me that
A/S took all the trailers back (financially), agreed to floor them for
Camper Clinic and that Camper Clinic personnel then towed each trailer
up to their Buda facility. A/S motorhomes were never mentioned. Camper
Clinic's only other comment was that Cliff's A/S trailers were all 2000
& 2001 models, harder to sell with the 2002 model year ending & 2003
coming out soon.
Also, to quote Camper Clinic "Camper Clinic got into a legal spat with
Cliff some time back, when they tried to sell Airstreams at their
location somewhere on the Texas coast, because that area was part of
Cliff's Airstream franchise marketing area. Cliff brought this to the
attention of Thor/Airstream and the Texas Attorney General's office and
Camper Clinic was forced to stop selling Airstreams on the Gulf coast,
but was allowed to market them at Buda (15 minutes south of Austin on
I-35)" unquote.
And yes, it does seem strange that the huge metropolitan area of Houston
is left without a recognized A/S dealer. Maybe someone with all your
experience & product knowledge should look at this as an entrepreneurial
business opportunity? The economy is improving, or so we're told
........
I enjoyed meeting you & your lovely wife. And thanks for putting your
snaps of the trailride on your website. Thanks for coming out. As you
know, after seeing you the weather got a lot worse during that week. My
Safari made it all so easy to enjoy the ride. If the evenings were nice,
we spent hours around the campfire just chatting & catching up. When the
rain started to drizzle and the temperature dropped near to freezing, I
just envited friends in for continued chat & a stiff drink (or fresh
coffee). I baked several loaves beer bread one afternoon for that
night's meal, made loads of home made chocolate chip cookies & took them
out for a lunch stop while still warm. Good times.
