Tom,
  I can't answer your question about how to install the radio/CD player, 
but I have an observation:

Many car radios are hard to read from an angle below the unit, as 
they're normally installed in a dashboard, where the operator is above 
the thing. At least in my trailer, the radio is slightly above my normal 
line of sight. The first unit that I bought (fortunately) didn't work 
properly, so I had to return it. I say "fortunately" because it was also 
very difficult to read the dial. Sooo.... I went to Best Buy and made 
sure that I observed the dial from a low elevation before settling on 
the one that met the bill.
