  I'd be very wary of installing heavy batteries where you propose. 
Terry Tyler related a story of trying that and being quite sorry. The 
frame/outriggers in that area won't handle the weight. Recently, someone 
posted a link to their site where they were doing a body-off-frame 
restoration, and the pictures clearly showed the frame. Support is very 
minimal when you get outside the frame rails.

I think you could get away without any venting of GC batteries if you 
used those HydroCaps. They have a catalyst that recombines the oxygen 
and hydrogen gases and lets the water drip back into the cells. There's 
little if any gassing. You can get the caps from
