Bob ... What can I say? Nothing that you will want to hear I'm afraid. As
the owner of a ' 68 Tradewind that I restored my best advise to you is to
walk away from the Overlander. If this is your first trailer and your first
renovation project you would do well to pick a less ambitious and less
expensive project.

Of course, I don't know how far you plan to go with your project but from
your questions I get the impression that you are contemplating a major
undertaking. You will discover that a project of the magnitude that you seem
to have in mind will cost far more and take far more time than you probably
expect. I believe you will find for the same money you will end up spending
on the Overlander project you would be able to buy a different Airstream
that is already in usable condition and one you could start using this year
and next. Even then, it's likely to satisfy your handy man do-it-yourself
urges and contribute to depleting your bank account because there is always
something that needs to be done to a vintage Airstream. I'm in my third
Airstream since 1971 and there's never an end to things to spend money on.

I believe if you post your query on the vintage Airstream discussion list
you will get a better idea of what you can expect with your restoration
