[A/S] Re: Is it warm there?

Hi Guys,

Good to hear from you. In reply to your question, the cheapest places we
have found to stay the winter are on BLM land (free) in southwestern USA.
Another inexpensive area is along the nearby 1,000 mile Baja Peninsula (free
to $3 a night) in Mexico.  None of these spots are hard to find if you ask
other RVers along the way.

Keep in mind you have the benefit of owning a well traveled Airstream that
has been to both areas before and knows all the best places to stay. Why
don't you get two triple A maps and start making plans to go exploring and
having a grand and economical adventure?

When we first became curious about BLM land,  the easiest locations to find
were south of Why, Arizona (first right after first bridge) on the road to
Lukeville, AZ and Sonoita, Mexico. The BLM sign is on a 5' high by 2' wide
brown iron post driven into the ground beside a dry wash. Just drive in,
look around for a tree and park on the north side of it with your awning
facing north. Life is very simple on BLM land.  It's even more fun when two
Airstream families go together.

We found this area while staying in Why, AZ at Coyote Howls Campground
(built and operated by the Why Utility Company). As with all of the BLM
sites we've used throughout the southwest, our first order of business is to
locate a source for water and a legitimate place to dump our holding tanks.

In the Why, AZ area, both of these services are in the village.  A water
spigot (free water) is in the huge parking lot in front of the gas station.
The sanitary dump (a charge) is at Coyote Howls Campground. There is a
grocery store in town (across the street from the gas station). Most of the
town can be seen by standing at the water spigot and slowly turning around
360 degrees.

If you haven't considered subscribing to the Airstream List and receiving
daily emails about anything and everything relating to Airstreaming
(including great places to stay), you might want to do that. Postings on the
Airstream List are informative and insightful. My suggestion:

In your note, you mentioned snow on Cape Cod. As you know, Sandie and I are
Massachusetts Pilgrims. Our years enjoying the snow are remembered fondly.
We wish were back in the northeast making snowmen after shoveling the
driveway. NOT!!  <grin>  If you get a serious snow storm, why don't you take
a few pictures of your Airstream and use the best print in next year's
Christmas cards that you send from Arizona?
