Re: [A/S] 2000 Ford Ranger getting ready to tow

You will get many opinions, see my opinions, below. My opinions are worth
what you will pay for them. ;-)

Don't overlook that you will have to add allowances for water, LP, black
water tank contents, clothes, food, kitchen items, and other necessary items.

That seems like a high tow rating for a 4 litre engine.

Where will you be pulling? If you will be pulling any hills or mountains,
you will need a transmission cooler, IMHO. A transmission cooler will be
good insurance even in flat country. Before spending money on a transmission
cooler, you may want to take a test drive to see how your vehicle will handle
the trailer. Make sure it is loaded as you will load it for a trip.

> Different shocks?

I would not think new shocks would be necssary, but I'm sure you realize you
will need an equalizing hitch with sway control.

> which self-adjusting electronic brake controller?

There are two schools of thought: electronic and mechanical. See
http://srd.yahoo.com/srst/2093526/Jordan+Research+/1/9/*http://www.jordanbrake

.com/ for the Jordan brake controller. Many swear by this controller. I
have heard many good stories on it, and have heard nothing bad.

> Anything else I should know?

Take a trial drive with your new tow vehicle and trailer before you decide if
they are compatible.
