I say let your wife give it a try.  Take the plug apart and it is pretty 
simple to put the wires back on where they belong. The color coding is 
different on AS than SOBs though, so make sure she has a proper diagram to 
start with.  I have done this job myself and it is not hard.  If it is not 
working now, what can you lose by letting her try?
