Sam,
  I got the adapter and antenna at Radio Shack, where I had bought the 
phone. There's 2 components: the adapter that sorta clips to the 
handheld's antenna and the external antenna. Both have cables attached, 
with some sort of RF connectors (I'm not familiar with all of the 
variations of such stuff, but they do match up with one another). The 
adapter looks like it'd work with almost any handheld cell phone.

  You could install the antenna semi-permantely as Jerry suggested, then 
just plug in the cable from the adapter when you wanted to use it. I 
might do that "one of these days", the main reason I haven't is that I 
have no easy access to the outside of the trailer from where I'd like to 
have the phone. Of course, there's always a drill. :-)
