Great information!  However, I've noticed two problems with the exhaust
brake (by any other name).  First and really important is that it's illegal
to use the brake in many residential areas as they are very loud.  No, I
don't have a guide by state or city.  Just know that I see the signs in the
suburbs around Washington, DC.  As  you can guess, the city and county
police are looking for ways to increase their income.  Guess you just have
to remember to turn it off, if that's possible.  The second problem relates
to the cold weather starting for the '02 PS diesel.  I note that the cold
starting is a computer learned system, according to the owner's manual.
Just as the ultimate horsepower can be altered in the PS diesel by changing
a computer chip (and the entire exhaust system to get more flow).  So, how
would the addition of another baffle affect the baffle already in the
exhaust for quick computer controlled warm ups?

Not a big issue, just something from  your response to put in my learned
issues about diesels.  Having always driven gas engines except for a brief
stint with a diesel rabbit and another dasher (same engine), I've a lot to
learn.  Like learning how to change the oil - really different than the gas
engine.  As a start, the diesel needs 15 quarts per refill!  And that
massive 2 quart oil filter!!!  :(  BTW, are  you using a fuel additive to
prevent gummy stuff in the winter?

Must be something about the white colored diesel, because a few days ago, a
huge hawk lifted from the far side of the road and flew straight into the
side of my puller, breaking the mirror mount.  Next trip, late at night, a
Labrador size dog darted across the road and tangled with my street front
wheel.  Sure glad it's a 4X4 and high enough so there wasn't any body
damage.  Hope all this nonsense runs it's course before I get the Safari on
the road!

Hmmm, this puts me in the mood to go out and turn the heat on inside the
Safari and make a few repairs .  .  .
