Hi Scott,
After spending a few "restless nights", I replaced our 16,000btu with 
a 35,000btu Surbuban furnace(had a simular problem and no replacement 
valves available), which fit in the original cabinet (looks like an 
original) and I have had many a restful night since. You will never 
be sorry if you replace ANY gas appliance that old.
