Re: [A/S] 79 w/Excella-Vac hydraulic disc brakes
Disc brakes will give 33% more stopping power than electrics, maintainance costs are
about the same, set(1pair) of pads are about $40, everything else is the same,
bearings, seals, etc. The BIG problem is the activation method, the vacuum/hydraulic
is not made anymore, the company that originally built them(Ausco) now manufactures an
electric/hydraulic unit, about the size of a shoe box, 11#, and operates of the same
system that drives electric brakes, a simple electronic brake control and no other
special wiring, in fact it uses less current than a 4 brake electric/magnet setup,
very easy to install too, takes more time to take the old vacuum boost off than to put
the new unit on.
