Hi. The very first thing you need to do is determine the overall 
condition of the entire braking system. If the unit has a lot of 
miles on it, they may need a lot of work. Loose pins and bad 
calipers, etc. They are a good braking system when they work. They 
can be very expensive to repair and even harder to find someone who 
knows how to fix them. Very often repairing them is more costly then 
throwing them away and going to all new electric brakes. Electric 
brakes work well and can serviced by most all trailer dealers, AS or 
not. Also setting up the tow vehicle is a chore and much more 
expensive than electric brakes. They add more weight to a trailer 
than electric brakes. Going to electric brakes will by default give 
you all new wheel bearings, seals, etc. If they are so wonderful, AS 
would still be using them. I changed mine over to electric and took a 
tour of the Big Horn Mtns last summer. They worked great. Good Luck
