RE: [A/S] Tow Vehicle

Let me go on record here - I was just POSITIVE I'd have no problem
towing my '02 27 ft. Safari with my 1998 5.0L Explorer. Well, this
weekend was the first time I'd had it on the road and only now can I
really appreciate and accept the good advise of others - the Explorer
pulled it, but it was truly a strain on the vehicle and would probably
be "gutted" (engine & trans.) if I tried to pull the trailer over lots
of miles & hills/mountains. AND I couldn't even see behind me past the
A/S body at all!!
Lesson Learned:
a) Pay strict attention to the folks who share their
knowledge/experience with trailer weight & length ratios matched to
towing vehicles, and
b) Don't leave the sales point with less than the best of rear view
mirrors! My camper is now PARKED until I can find the right (huge)
clip-on mirrors (probably Camper World). Not knowing what is behind me,
my placement within my lane, etc. scared the poopski out of me.

I now know I will eventually have to buy a 3/4 ton truck, and probably a
diesel, to get the pull power I want.
Good luck.
