Joy,
 I replaced the old-style antenna in our Avion with a modern Winegard
"batwing" like every manufacturer uses today. It works very well indeed.
The only problem is routing the coax leadin from the new antenna; it's
not really possible to make it come out where the original stuff did.
Not a huge problem functionally, but might be an esthetic problem for
some.
