[A/S] cooling capacity
Hi Don,
Twenty years ago, I replaced the 3 core radiator on my '78 Ford E-250 with a
5 core radiator and a 150 degree thermostat. The temperature gauge NEVER
goes above the letter O in the word NORMAL. That includes running the a/c on
90 degree summer days through Raton Pass (and other Rocky Mountain passes)
at 55-60 mph while towing our 8700 pound Airstream ('77 31').
The addition of a 40,000 pound capacity transmission oil cooler (installed
same time as radiator) was also a smart move. My 460 CID engine and C6
transmission are approaching 300,000 miles and still running strong and
steady.
There's a certain amount of satisfaction in KNOWING that all the nay sayers
and prognosticators of gloom (that I'd ruin the engine and transmission with
too much cooling) were dead wrong.
