I see what Terry has done expanding the capacity of a cooling system and
revising his temperature settings and no doubt it works and does a good job for
him.

But:

One time when I was young and dumb, I decided I knew everything there was about
cars, cooling and towing and physically removed the radiator thermostat and
tried it out on a short haul.  Well, needless to say it didn't work because the
lack of thermostat just allowed all the coolant, (and I think in them days it
was basically water) to continue to flow throughout the engine block and
radiator without really being able to cool off in the radiator.

Then, another time when I thought I was even smarter, I installed a 160(?)+/-5
degree thermostat in a standard system of a 1 ton crew cab towing a 22' trailer.
Again, this didn't work because the coolant never was able to get cooled to a
temperature cold enough to cool the engine with the thermostat opening at such a
cool temperature.

Then I smartened up and decided that the car manufacturers know a lot more about
cooling engines than I do and quit trying to re-invent the cooling system of tow
vehicles.

You know, I have less problems and I operate my A/C and all the other bells and
whistles at the same time.
