Re: [A/S] Triton V-10/GM 7.4L/GM 6.5TD

Holly has already told you about her Super Duty with the diesel. I can add
for comparison's sake that my Supercab Super Duty pickup with the V10 gets
between 10 and 11 mpg towing a '85 25' Sovereign which is similar to (but not
NEARLY as nice as) Holly's. Truthfully, I can get slightly over 11 mpg about
half the time if I keep the speeds under 65 mph. I don't have much experience
towing solo with this truck but what little I have done gives me 14 mpg.
First trip into the mountains (Estes Park, Colorado) is this coming weekend
so I have no experience in the mountains as of today but I have no doubt it
will pull strong and easy.

WARNING: I have no factual basis for this opinion whatsoever, but
nevertheless I believe looking at the drop in gas mileage solo versus towing
is a good indication of having a properly sized engine for the job. I know
there's a lot more to it and certainly wheelbase is extremely important as is
rear end ratio. However, as a simple quick and dirty indication of adequate
power look at the difference honest people quote you between what they get
solo and towing with a trailer comparable to what you've got.
