I agree i never heard of a manual tranny going bad(in over 35 years of 
hanging around cars) except in the lightweight trucks in the past couple of 
years  (bean counters cutting all the good stuff out who couldn't design 
their way out of a wet paper bag!) IMHO the ones with passion for the 
product build the business and the bean counters strangle the life and 
spirit out of it.....  i know i'll be quiet now.... nice bean 
counters....good bean counters .....
