[A/S] CD Changer - (was Cats, Dogs......)
If your cd changer is powered by the battery (12 volts) and "cuts
out" means it is shutting down like the power has been removed, that
could be what's happening if it is powered from the same circuit that
powers the water pump.
RV water pumps will draw 5 amps (or more) which can cause a
significant voltage drop if there is any resistance in the circuit.
Resistance can come from connections that are loose, corroded or
poorly made. It could also be that the wire from the power source to
the water pump was sized to handle the current for the pump but is
too small for the added load of the cd player. A third possibility
is the circuit breaker or fuse for this circuit has increased in
resistance over time.
Some things to try:
If you have a voltmeter, monitor the voltage going to the cd player,
turn the pump on and watch for a drop in voltage. Motor speed and
timing are critical in CD players and anything below 12 volts should
be eyed with suspicion.
If the pump circuit has a fuse, change the fuse.
Move the power input for the CD changer to another circuit, maybe one
that is used for lighting.
If "cutting out" means the changer is operating but the sound
is cutting out, the pump motor may be arcing internally, creating
noise on the power line and the changer circuitry is responding to
the interference by blocking or shutting down. This could happen
even of the changer is powered from a circuit other than the pump
circuit. The solution here is to add an interference filter to the
changer power input (Radio Shack). If that doesn't help the pump
may
need to be repaired.
Good Luck and let us know what you find.
