I have an early 1998 Dodge Ram Club Cab Long Bed 12 valve Cummins 
Diesel with 3.54 gears and the 4 speed automatic. I tow a 62 
Tradewind or a 2000 25 Palomino Ultralite, both about 4000 lbs 
loaded. I'm using the same method as you, I pull all day in overdrive 
except for hills when I lock out the OD. This works fine for me and I 
average 14-15 MPG. I sure like your 20 MPG better!
