[A/S] LP Regulator noise

Dear All,

We just took our first trip in our A/S and it was great! Had a wondeful
time and loved all the thoughtful details inside. Driving/pulling it (31')
took a while to get used to, but after 400 miles we feel very comfortable on
the road (both my wife and I drove.)

One question: On the way "out" I turned off the two LP tank valves (at the
top) We stopped after 50 miles to check everything and heard a constant
"pinging" (about once every 2 seconds) from the apparatus (hard to tell
exactly where.) I decided maybe the regulator was "trying to find an open
tank" and cycling back and forth so I turned the regulator valve off
(sidways) also. That didn't seem to make any difference.
The Airstream manual is frustratingly vague about the details of turning off
the LP gas system.

When we got to our campground, I "set up shop" and opened all valves. The
pinging stopped and all the applicances worked fine. On the way home, I
turned the regulator off and left the LP tanks valves open. No noise.

So what's going on? What's the "right" way to turn off the LP gas on trips?
