I never drive with my gas on so the fridge isn't on to go out.

I find that if I leave the doors closed, everything stays fine.... even ice 
cubes.

It's a hassle to shut off gas to get refueled, and there is an inherent 
danger in driving down the road with open gas tanks.

That said, I know many RVers do it... I just don't think it's necessary as 
everything stays cold.
