I thought I'd stick my nose in this thread.Me too    Pearl in So Cal   I 
bought a ford 1 ton van in florida and when I went to the DMV they 
wanted me to pay the sales tax and register it and then since i live in 
Ca and was driving home I called CA CMV and low and behold  not
recipricap and Ca wanted sales tax again So somce there were no plates 
on the van I took my bil of sale and merrily drove from Florida
back to California....spent one night in campground since it had a 
convertable couch, one with friend in El Paso,  one in rest area,  one 
at a truck stop where my heart stopped since 5 Sheriff cars
came in and parked all around me and went in to the restaurant to have 
breakfast and never even noticed I had no plates....so just carry your 
papers and act normal and they probably will not even
talk to you.
