Bob,

We too, have camped for many years.  As has already been stated, the 
'noise phenominon' seems to be worse in popular campgrounds near 
water, but mostly on weekends.  It would probably require a 
psychologist to explain why this is... I can conjecture, but so can 
most of us.

Campgrounds that are unbearable on weekends are often serene during 
the week.  Campgrounds that are not popular because they offer 
seclusion (but no access to a body of water large enough to boat on) 
off the beaten track are also usually better bets on weekends.

Take some safaris around your area (sans trailer) on weekends and then 
again on weeknights and survey your planned destinations.  That ought 
to give you a good idea of which parks to use when you usually like to 
go!

Take solace in knowing that MOST of the folks who are out camping are 
looking for the same kind of quiet get-away that you are.
