Chuck,

The additional plumbing is probably the piping that allows filling the fresh
water tank while connected to city water supply.  It probably allows you to
open a valve and fill the fresh water tank.  This is more convenient than
filling externally with a hose... as long as you remove the cap to vent,
fill slowly, and watch so that the tank does not become overfilled and
pressurized.
