Sections of the plywood sub-floor can be replaced using plywood (my '48 had
5/8" ply) or OSB (oriented strand-board) of matching thickness. Many
restorers use a penetrating epoxy (e.g. 'GitRot') to seal the plywood,
especially around the edges. This epoxy can also be used on spongey floors,
where the original plywood has begun to 'rot' or delaminate, so one needn't
always cut out the old wood and replace it. In this method, a large number
of small holes may be drilled into the damaged floor to maximize penetration
and dispersion of the epoxy...
