Joe,

If I read your response wrong, then just chalk this up to meddling
and ignore it. But I think that you are recommending a power cord
with two male ends. Please don't do it. This is a very serious
violation of safe practices that will get someone killed. 

I assume that the cord is not connected (on the trailer end) within
a compartment so that it could be hardwired.  If this is true then
just make the receptacle on the trailer a male and deeply recessed.

You do not have to compromise safety to keep an old trailer  up and
running.
