I assume it gets cold on gas? There's an electric heating element for 
electrical operation. You can take an ohm meter and see if it opened 
up. If you look at the back of the refer there's a terminal block 
coming from the thermostat. New elements are about $40.00. BTW, there 
is no compressor so there is no noise.
