Re: [A/S] Airstream Skin

I don't know about the quality of the aluminum or the year of manufacture.

I have a '69 International 31' the aluminum skin has very fine horizontal
brush
lines as though it was finished with a brillo pad. This A/S has a very hard
surface.
It is hard to push an ice pick through the skin. This trailer had not been
polished,
I have owned it since 1979. It still has a good shine about it and very
little oxidation.

My '79 International 31' has the side skins almost like the '69 with the
brillo pad
horizontal lines, however the aluminum is softer and easy to drill or push
through.
The top and ends of the '79 have a different aluminum formulation
altogether. The metal is softer and has no brushed finish. Only the ends and
top
are oxidized and dull. The sides are fairly shiny and still have the
clearcoat holding
up fairly well.

I guess that sometime when I take out an interior panel I will be able to
see
the makers marking on the aluminum.
