[A/S] Chevy Transmissions for Towing -Continuing the Discussion

3/4 ton big block powered Chevy p/u's and Suburbans use a 4L80E transmission
which I believe is based on the old bullet-proof TH400 (non-overdrive)
transmission which is still preferred by Chevy owners for high performance
applications behind modified big block engines.  The 4L80E is much stronger
but Chevy owner's manual through '93 still directed towing with overdrive
locked out.  A fellow A/Ser has a '93 3/4 ton 454/4L80E/3.73:1geared
Suburban.  We read his owner's manual once when the discussion came up
during an Airsteaming weekend.

I don't know if minor internal modifications were made or if Chevy simply
relaxed the restriction on later years.  I wouldn't be afraid to tow with a
big block 4L80E equipped Chevy in overdrive but the manuals did prohibit
such use through '93.
