 A 3/4-ton van should be fine as a tow vehicle, especially if equipped
for towing: additional transmission cooler, extra-large radiator, etc.
It should have a rear axle ratio of 3.73 or even 4.10, you don't want an
'economy' 3.07 or something like that.

To be sure, look at the vehicle's GVWR and GCWR (gross vehicle weight
rating & gross combined vehicle weight rating) numbers and see if they
exceed your planned needs. A larger trailer will be fairly weighty and
you'll add 800# or more of stuff to the empty weight. Plus, you'll haul
more stuff in the van, including passengers. All of this must be added
up and compared to the above ratings.

Only the smallest A/S trailers would be suitable behind most 1/2-ton
rated vans, IMO, and I wouldn't attempt using any mini-van myself.
