Re: [A/S] Breadtruck

Asked for the VIN# and got all this back (c:

Hi......
Got the info on the A Van.

The I.D. plate in the engine compartment reads as follows:

Mfd by General Motors Corporation
GVWR 10,000
GAWR Front 4,000
GAWR Rear 7,900
Vin. CPL3273325022
Tires and Wheels (8 lug)
Front 7.50 x 16 D 45 lbs Inflation
Rear (dual) 7.50 x 16 D 55 lbs Inflation

The I.D. plate in the cab just below the instrument compartment reads as
follows:

Mfd by Airstream Incorporated
Year 8-1-77
Inc Veh Mfd by: CHEV DIV
Date of Inc. Mfg 8-1-77
GVWR 10,000
Front 4,000
Rear 7,900
Complies To All Safety Standards In Effect In 8-1-77
Vin. CPL 3273325022
Type A14A7157CJ3353

The inside height is only 6 feet headroom and only 6 feet wide. The
interior box area in back of the front seats is about 15 feet long. The
whole Airstream truck as a little over 21 feet long and the rear bumper
is missing because they installed this heavy duty electric/hydraulic
life gate on the rear with a foot operated electric button.

The 3 front seats all hinge forward and the middle front seat hinges
forward on a deep storage box. The aluminum engine cover (inside and
held in place by four rubber stretch clamps) has a round, clear plastic
Airstream emblem which is red with silver chrome printing and a big blue
"A". The silver chrome printing reads around the edge of the emblem:
"Another Quality Product Leisure World of Airstream"

There are also 2 white plastic emblems on either side of the cab on the
outside and the printing reads: Another Quality Product Service World
of Airstream"

Don't know why these two emblems read "Service" instead of
"Leisure"...... The front grill emblem is a bigger gold plastic with
white letters reading "A Van"..... the "A" being in a circle.

The speedometer shows only 12,015.9 total mileage.... (assuming it went
around once)... however the owner "only" used it for his big commercial
ice machine he kept in it for some reason and parked it inside his big
warehouse.. .... so it "may" be the total mileage since new..... who
knows...?

It has a two piece flat windshield and the driver's side is cracked and
is has single headlights... and there are no dents anywhere. Everything
inside is also bare aluminum with no interior or dash padding material,
just bare aluminum. The driver's and passengers windows are sliding
aluminum/glass and the cab has kick out spring loaded air vents on each
side by your knees.

It has a nice simple aluminum front heater box and no power steering
although is does have power brakes and no AC (of course).... just your
basic Airstream "breadbox". Maybe it's a rare bird... if none exist
anywhere? ... you never know.

The only upholstery is the blue plastic covers (original) for the three
separate seat cushion bases and seat backs.... much like you'd see in a
pleasure boat..... and all of the rear wheel wells and heavy floor are
all aluminum.

Even the body mounting rails and inside structures are heavy aluminum
channel that bolt to the GMC steel truck frame. The Chevrolet engine is
a small block V8, automatic transmission with only a two barrel
carb..... it may be a 327 cu in or a 350...... Chevrolet said this Vin.
didn't exist in their old records....

See what your Airstream Corporation history gents have to say about this
odd vehicle...... I'll install a Class III receiver hitch and wire it
up for my classic 28 foot Airstream Land Yacht...... just fun stuff....

Thanks again, John>>
