A circuit trace is the copper lines laid on a board during manufacture.
Another way to view it is to hold a circuit board up to the light, the
lines you see on the board are traces.
As to what kind of led, most any would do. I chose blue because they were
somewhat rare at the time.
You just have to wire a few resistors in the power line to it to reduce
the twelve volts to a lower level. The dimmer you use the led, the longer
it lasts plus the original voltage rating of the led I used was too
bright for me. The resistors fixed that.
I did not replace all the lights because only one shines all the time in
my control panel. That is the power-on light and that is the only one I
replaced.
