[A/S] Hydraulic-Electric Trailer Brake Controllers

Jim,

I can't answer that one from personal experience but I will pass this
on...........

When I purchased the new old-style Kelsey last week, I asked the RV dealer
parts manager to call Kelsey and confirm what I had already been told by
phone a couple years ago, that I could use the hydraulic-electric controller
with rear ABS.  The young parts manager called and when he reported to me,
Kelsey had confirmed that I could use it.  He said the Kelsey spokesman,
taking no position, also told him that one of their customers had recently
installed one on a 2000 Ford.

Knowing how brake controllers once worked and should work, as you and I do,
my suggestion would be to buy and install one and try it on your truck
without trailer first.  If for any reason it wouldn't work, I am almost
certain you could sell it to someone with a rear ABS truck like mine, or an
older non-ABS truck without a loss.

Having said that, I should tell you that the young parts manager I bought
mine from told me that Kelsey has quit manufacturing the hydraulic-electric
controllers because many parts and service managers are not familiar with
them and promote the current electric-electric controllers.  I guess there
is also some product liability concern in this day of lawsuits against
everyone because installation requires tapping into a brake line.  The local
non Airstream dealer had several on his shelf, at <$60 each.  If you want
one, I'll give you his name and number.

If we weren't separated by 2k miles, I'd let you plumb mine into your truck
for a trial run before you purchase one.
