Hi Jim. Very true. Water must be added periodically to a battery that has 
cell caps. However with the advent of the  maintenance free battery, adding 
water is no longer necessary.   Being sealed as they are, saves water. 
However, the original types are still available and used. So, the final 
answer is, some will need water and some won't, depending on which battery 
you have.   Lori
