Re: [A/S] Argosy Newbie
A proper charge line on the tow vehicle would be hooked up to an automatic
resettable 12 volt circuit breaker, Personal choice for this breaker can be
30, 40 or 50 amps. The other side of this circuit breaker goes directly to
the alternator, therefore bypassing any fusible link. Also the tow vehicle
charge line should be 10 gauge, from the circuit breaker to the connector. A
person may add a battery isolator, if they so wished. If the coach had two
absolute dead batteries, the current (amps) that they can draw is limited by
the rating of the inline circuit breaker. The breaker may kick out, but it
will keep resetting automatically until the current draw is at or below the
rating of the circuit breaker. Usually, if the coach has one battery, use a
40 amp breaker. If the coach has two batteries, then use a 50 amp breaker. If
this set up is used, an alternator failure, would not happen, due to plugging
in the trailer having one or two or for that matter, any number of batteries.
However, if a circuit breaker was not used, then anything can happen, and
usually does. This is also why an inline fuse of any rating should never be
used in a charge line. Andy
