The advantages of aluminum bottles are primarily weight reduction but
another fairly strong advantage is the fact that the aluminum bottles do not
develop rust patches where the paint has been knocked off by road sand and
pebbles thrown up by the tow vehicle and do not require occasional
repainting.  They are also more attractive in appearance.

You can change over to aluminum bottles most easily by locating a dealer or
Airstream salvage site that has a pair of take-off bottles and hold-down
hardware for sale as a package.  Rick Borden, BKRV@aol.com, a trailer repair
service operator near Longview, Texas recently offered two pairs of aluminum
bottles for sale, seems like he wanted $75 per bottle.  My daughter has
located one with regulator and hardware for my vintage trailer at a very
good price but I'll have to wait to find another before I can install the
matching pair.
