Re: [A/S] greetings from new list member.
I added the SmarTire system to my 34' for $230. The local Sears store quoted
me this price, but I talked my Goodyear dealer into becoming a SmarTire
dealer and got him to do it for the same price. Sears was going to charge me
$10 per tire to install the system, but the Good Year dealer did not if I
would get new tires. I was getting my trailer ready to take off to Alaska on
one of the A/S Caravans in July, and was going to put new Load Range D
Marathons on anyway. I personally inflated all 7 tires, only 6 have sensors,
using my digital gauge. The readout showed all 6 tires to be within one
pound of pressure when I got on the road home from the dealer. I drove 12
miles before getting to the storage lot, and all 6 tires were within 3
degrees F of each other, and had gone up 18 degrees before leveling off.
That is the extent of my towing with the system installed, but hope to avoid
the flat tires ripping out my finder wells like Hunter and others have. I
added this post because I had trouble getting any cost data until I went to
the Sears store. It turned out the Sears store in Wilmington, NC did not
install the system, but the service manager hooked me up with the store in
Jacksonville, NC (50 miles away) that did. That is when I got my first cost
info that started to sound like what I was going to have to really pay for
the completed job. I wanted a local shop to do my work if possible, thus the
deal with the local Good Year dealer, Blacks Tire Service in Wilmington.
