Re: [A/S] Hitchin' up
I've developed a highly specialized technique for hitching-up:
I get close, like Hunter described, then I walk back and count the # of boot
lengths between hitch and ball (including halves or thirds). Next I go back
to the door of the truck and before getting in I make a mark in the dirt (or
place a stick), step-off the appropriate number of steps and make another
mark or drop another stick. Then I get back in the truck and with it in
reverse and with the door open (foot on brake) I point my finger at the
first mark. Without moving my arm or my head I back up until my finger
points at the second mark. You can do a little side to side adjustment at
the same time assuming you can remember which way to turn the wheel. Do it
enough times and you won't even think about it anymore.
It works for me. I can usually get the tongue on the ball on the first try.
