Just a short comment here.

My wife and I have a 31' A/S, and it's comfortable, but I can't take it
to the places I used to camp.

If I were starting over, I'd look at a 21' or 25'.  Probably just as
comfortable, and easier to get in and out of boondock places.

Pearl's mention of the "hand at the bottom" is right.  It makes backing
easier, no matter what the length.
