These things are great.  They come in colors; clear (white), green, blue,
red.  They are also dimmable, if you use a dimmer switch instead of an
off/on switch.  They are called 'Rope light".  Limos use them in the rear,
so do conversion vans.

For parties or at Christmas, you can use them to outline a walkway, or make
a temporary walkway thru the grass etc.
