[A/S] AS entry door

My 78 AS has a "suicide door" that is to say that it is hinged to the 
rear instead of the front. If the latch failed while traveling at 
highway speeds, the repair bill would certainly ruin my day. It has a 
dead bolt that is only operable from the inside and won't serve as a 
travel latch. Has anyone else thought of this and what if anything 
did you do about it? Has anyone replaced the dead bolt with one 
operable from the out side evan if it didn't lock. Thanx Lufr
