Hello,
I've dealt with tambour doors in my 72 Overlander and there are a few
tricks.   When you roll the door all the way back into the pocket there
should be a brake on the inside edge of the roll. You can ease the door  out
through it.
Sometimes you can reach the screws that hold the roll and get them out by
unscrewing them.  Study them for a while before you do it, you may think of
a better way.  This way worked for me and I replaced the backing and put
them back in too!  Almost every one was damaged.
