The chassis frame of an Airstream supports the body only at the section
immediately aft of the A-frame and above the running gear. It does not
support the entire trailer. At all other sections of the trailer, the body
supports the frame. The strength of an Airstream is derived mostly from its
shape.
Also, there is no pressboard or particle board used in the construction of a
Safari/Bambi.
Aside from the cabinetry, the biggest weight/cost saving measure used in the
Safari/Bambi is the windows. One window in a Classic costs what all the
windows in a Safari cost.
All Airstreams are now equipped with 15" wheels, and a spare is optional on
all models, as they always have. There have been no significant durability
issues with Airstream Safaris, and they are now in their fifth year of
production. An Airstream Safari is still a much better trailer than any
other brand out there today.
