I went to a metal shop and bought some shiny aluminum, and also had a sheet
metal shop form the aluminum to match the white cover that came with the new
heater.  I used the resulting aluminum cover instead of the new white cover,
and it turned out quite well.  It too looked a whole lot better than the
white door.
